Ibrahim Rushdie He was given the letter of appointment to the post of Attorney General personally by the King at Mathige (Upper House) on Friday, 16th December 1932 (17th Shau’baan 1351). It was at a function to swear in officials and hand over the letters of appointment, to various senior government posts before the announcement of the new constitution. He was stripped of the post, after he was banished from the island due to the unrest following the cancellation of the old constitution on Thursday, 9th November 1933 (20th Rajab 1352). Letter of appointment was taken back on 11th Shau’baan 1352. Note: There was no way Sheikh Ibrahim Rushdie could have been appointed to the post of the Attorney General on 27th January 1934 (11.10.1352). At the time there was no end in sight to the “Motorboat” unrest. He was in Ceylon after the crime against the people. He was appointed to the post of Attorney General again on 18th September 1939 ( 3rd Shau’baan 1358) to act as a lawyer when and if required, and to give advice to Shariyyaa on matters concerning law. On 27th February 1940 (17th Muh’arram 1359), letter of appointment was prepared to appoint Sheikh Ibrahim Rushdie for the posts of Attorney General and Head of Mah’kamathul-Auqaaf. He was removed from the posts on 30th September 1940. |
